JOYCE R. DERING Mrs. Joyce Dering, age 79, of Hospers, passed away Tuesday,
January 20, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City. There was a funeral service on Saturday, January 24, at ll:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Hospers. The Rev. Milton Sikkema officiated. Interment followed at the Hospers Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm, and Friday, from 3:00pm to 8:00pm, with the family present THURSDAY, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hospers.

Joyce Ruth was born October 5, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Gerrit and Lena (Meyer) Vanderlee. She was educated in Roseland Christian School and Chicago Christian HighSchool., On December 15, 1945, she married Henry Dering, Jr., the son of Henry and Jennie Dering, in Chicago. They lived in Chicago for eight years, and then moved to South Holland, Illinois, where they lived for 33 years. Sheworked in various offices, learning and using many skills, as well as doing volunteer work for friends and family.

From May of 1986 until April of 1994, Joyce and Henry worked with Roving Volunteers In Christ's Service, traveling across the United States and Canada. They served Christian organizations, where she did a variety of jobs from painting and cleaning to office work with computers. They spent their summers furloughing with their children.

In August of 1994, they retired to Hospers. Henry passed away on April .23, 1996, in Orange City. In April of 2002, she moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon, and in November of 2003, she transferred to the Heritage House. Mrs. Dering was a member of the First Reformed Church. She enjoyed playing piano, sewing, and doing handwork. She ministered to others through the written word, by cards, letters ,and poems.

She mothered three children and grand mothered eleven grandchildren. Survivors include her son and his wife, Gary and Zoey Dering, of Gig Harbor, Washington; a daughter and her husband, Barbara and David De Jong, of Hospers; a son-in-law, Robert Beasley, of Duncan, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth "Betsy", Micah Henry, Stephen Daniel, Nancy Ruth, and Timothy John Beasley; Stephanie Joy and Robert James Dering; and Daniel David, Luke Lee, Caleb Joel, and Seth Andrew De Jong; her brother, Harold Vanderlee,of Midland Texas; and a nephew and a niece.

In addition to her husband, she was precededin death by a daughter, Margaret Beasley; and her sister, Marjorie DeMello. Memorials may be directed to New Tribes Mission.
