Cora De Ruyter, age 86, died Sunday, November 7, 2004, at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. Funeral service was held Wednesday at First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley.

Cora was born July 20, 1918, to Edward and Mary (Bower) Hoekstra in Doon, IA. She was united in marriage to Dick De Ruyter on May 21, 1938, in Sioux Falls, SD. Together they lived in Michigan for four months before Dick entered the military from 1943-1946. They lived in Sioux City, IA, and Sunnyside, WA, and finally settled in Rock Valley in 1948.

Dick died October 22, 1998. Cora moved to Valley Manor in 2002. She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church where she was active in the Martha Circle and Mission Guild. Cora enjoyed her family and especially her grandchildren and also enjoyed music, flowers, cooking, canning, collecting recipes and newspaper clippings.

Survivors include: 3 sons: John (Elaine) of Arnolds Park, IA, Ed (Rose) of Rock Valley and Rich (Beckie) of Verona, MO; 3 daughters: Hilda Jensen of Rock Valley, Mary (Joe) Bryant of Rock Valley, Marcy Chapman and fiance'e, Greg Ahrens of Jackson, MN; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, John Hoekstra, of Rock Valley; sister, Ida Van Driel, of Rock Valley. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick; and brother, Ed.
