Herman Dirksen, 71, died Monday, June 16, at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Paul Bakker officiating. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley.

Dirksen was born March 17,1932, near Ireton, the son of Herman Sr. and Rena (Hamstra) Dirksen. He attended country school near Ireton. He married Mildred De Wit on November 10, 1954, at First Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. They lived most of their married lives in Rock Valley where he was a self-employed carpenter. He served with the U. S. Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War.

He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church and had served on the Rock Valley Christian School Board. He was a member of the Rock Valley Fire Department for 40 years and a charter member of the EMT squad. He loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed working with wood and his annual fishing trip to Canada with friends.

Survivors include his wife of 48years; two sons and their wives, Harlan and Janet Dirksen of Sioux Falls and Joe and Mary Dirksen of Sioux Center; two daughters and their husbands, Lynette and Richard Rozeboom of Rock Valley and Myra and Phil Olson of Sioux Falls; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three sisters, Renaand husband E1L Niemeyer of Inwood, Clara Bonestroo of Sheldon and Ellie Warntjes of Rock Valley; a sister-in-law, Floss and husband Bud Termaat, and a brother-in- law, John and wife Lenora De Wit, all of Rock Valley.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Evert Dirksen and Dick and wife Dena Dirksen; two sisters and their husbands, Dora and Nick Roghair and Minnie and Gerrit DeVos and three brothers-in-law, Barney Westra, John J. Warntjes and Fred Bonestroo.
