Darlene Friedmann
Darlene Ann Friedmann, 80, of Alton died Tuesday, March 28, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. Funeral service was Friday at 10:30a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton with the Rev. Fr. John Vakulskas, the Rev, Fr. Cecil Friedmann, the Rev.Msgr. Mervin Hood, and die Rev. Fr. Richard Ball officiating. Interment wasat St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Mrs. Friedmann was born on March 3,1926, at Trent, South Dakota, the daughter of Anthony and Rose(Schnee) Vonderharr. She was raised in the Trent Dell Rapids, South Dakota, area, graduating from St. Mary's Catholic High School in Dell Rapids. As a young adult, she worked in a cafe at Sheldon, where she met Joseph George Friedmann. They were married on November 12,1946, in Dell Rapids. They farmed at Alton, where she was a homemaker and also served as housekeeper of St. Mary's Rectory for 20 years. He died on April 10, 1996, in Remsen, after almost 50 years of marriage.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she belonged to the Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Floyd American Legion Post Auxillary in Alton. She enjoyed quilting and embroidering. Her family was her greatest treasure.

Survivors include her six children, Dennis Friedmann and his wife Colane of Granville, Wilma Friedmann of Rock Island, Illinois, Lawrence Friedmann and his partner Winford Williams of Chicago, Illinois, Mary and her husband Bob Jenkins of Encinitas, California, George Friedmann and his wife Julie of Sac City and Kenneth Friedmann and his wife Eileen of Sioux City; six grandsons; six granddaughters; a great-grandson; and a sister, Shirley De Boer, of Sheldon.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Anthony Vonderharr. Memorials will be directed to the Mercy Medical Center Oncology Unit.
