Funeral services were held at the First Reformed Church here at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday for Henry Santema, 73, of Sioux Center, lifelong Sioux County resident and retired farmed, who died suddenly and unexpectedly Saturday afternoon following a heart attack which came on while he was fishing on a small lake four and one-quarter miles southeast of Sioux Center.

Fishing with him at the time was Rodney Rodenburgh, son of Lane Rodenburgh of Sioux Center. Rodney reported that Mr. Santema was sitting on the bank, with fishing pole in his hand, and his line out, when the attack came on. Death came quickly and quietly.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. John Roggen and burial will be made in the Sioux Center Community Cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg’s Funeral Home.

A brief service was conducted at Vander Ploeg’s funeral chapel immediately preceding the service at the church.

Pallbearers were Theron Mulder, Joe Mulder, Jake Vander Brake, Arthur Santema, Duwaine Santema, and Ronald Santema.

Mr. Santema was born at Orange City, Iowa, July 13, 1890. He was married to Daisy Mulder at Sioux Center December 3, 1914, and to this union four sons were born. The family resided on a farm west of Sioux Center for many years prior to retiring and moving into Sioux Center February 1, 1947.

Survivors include his widow, Daisy; four sons, Andrew of Keokuk, Iowa, James of Fresno, California, Bernard of Sheldon and John of Rock Valley; 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Marie (Mrs. William Wobbema) and Ida (Mrs. Fred DeGroot), both of Brookings, South Dakota; three brothers, Gerrit and Albert of Volga, South Dakota, and Peter of Ireton.

He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Sandra Gayle; one sister, Mrs. P.O. Smith of Arlington, South Dakota; one brother, Rudolph, of Aurora, South Dakota.
