The funeral of William R. Green, who died very suddenly while in Sioux City last week was held at the Presbyterian Church at 3 o’clock last Friday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. A.M. McIntosh, pastor of the church. A large concourse of relatives and friends were present to pay their last tribute of respect to the memory of this esteemed pioneer citizen. The Masonic order of which fraternity he was a faithful member for many years, had charge of the obsequies at the grave. Interment was made in Grace Hill Cemetery.

William R. Green, was born in LaFayette County, Wisconsin, January 30, 1858. He came with his parents to Elk Point, South Dakota in 1864, and continued to make his home in Union County until the time of his death. He was one of the few pioneers who came to Union County when it was a wildness, when it was the range for the buffalo and the hunting ground for the Indians, and remained to see it converted into one of the most prosperous farming communities on the face of the globe. He was united in marriage with Miss Rhoda Jane McGuire at Elk Point April 1st, 1882. A year or two after their marriage they moved onto the farm three miles northwest of Hawarden which has since been their home. Five of their children were born to this union: Amos, Oscar, Ona, Minnie, and Mrs. Guy Venard, all of whom reside in this community.

Besides his wife, Rhoda and children he is survived by four brothers and three sisters. They are: J.S. Green of Hawarden; Albert S. Green and Washington Green of Long Beach, California; R.S. Green and Mrs. W. Eslick of Elk Point; Mrs. John Skaife of Wisconsin and Mrs. J. Pace.

Among the relatives and friends from a distance in attendance at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Washington Green of Long Beach, California; R.S. Green, Mrs. Edith Eslick, Blythe McGuire, Mr. and Mrs. Bert McGuire and daughter Zelma; Mrs. Thos Eslick, Rafe Eslick, Mr. and Mrs. Ren Pike, Mr. and Mrs. Lon Pike and Aaron Pace of Elk Point; Mrs. Hettie Green and Charles Green of Ponca, Nebraska; Mrs. Dave Corsey and daughter Vivian and Willie Pike of Jefferson.
