Born: 1851
Died: 1931

A.S. Green, a pioneer resident of Union County, passed away Monday evening, March 2nd, at the home of a friend in Los Angeles, California. Mr. Green had attended the Iowa picnic in Los Angeles the Saturday previous and remained for a visit with friends. He had eaten a hearty evening meal and had retired, remarking that he did not feel quite so well as usual. A few minutes later when some member of the household went to see how he was it was discovered that he had passed away.

A.S. Green was born at Platteville, Wisconsin, and was 80 years at the time of his death. When he was young man he came to this vicinity, homesteading in Union County. For many years he resided northwest of Hawarden and later at Alcester. He was one of the pioneers of Union county and was well known throughout the county. Later he went to Ponca, Nebraska, where he resided for many years and later he lived at Leeds, Iowa. For the past seventeen years he had resided in California and at the time of his death he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Olive Benedict at Corona, California. Last summer he spent several weeks here and at Alcester and Elk Point visiting with old time friends and relatives. He seemed usually hearty for a man of his years.

He is survived by six children, Mrs. Olive Benedict of Corona, California; Mrs. Alta Clark of Fall Brook, California; Mrs. Cora Rosebaum of Elk Point; Mrs. Myrtle Crumby and Chas. Green of Ponca, Nebraska; and Albert Green of Fort Pierre, South Dakota. He is also survived by one brother, Rafe Green of Elk Point, and two sisters, Mrs. Edith Eslick of Elk Point and Mrs. Nettie Skaife of Fredrick, Wisconsin.

According to word received here by his sister-in-law, Mrs. Rhoda Green, funeral services were held in California Tuesday of this week and interment was made there.
