Dorothy Wynja Dorothy Geneva Wynja, 82, of Sioux Center died Tuesday, September 26, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, after a short illness. Memorial services were Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Central Reformed Dorothy Wynja Church in Sioux Center with Pastor Van Rathbun officiating. Interment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Mrs. Wynja was born April 21, 1924, to Henry and Etta (Sandbulte) Den Herder. She grew up on the family farm near Sioux Center. She attended Welcome Township rural school and later graduated from Sioux Center High School. On January 3, 1945, she married Christian Wynja. The couple lived for a short time on a farm near Orange City and for 14 years in Middleburg, where she and her husband were custodians of the Free Grace Reformed Church. She spent the rest of her life on their family farm near Sioux Center.

She worked alongside her husband with his custom corn shelling business and on their farm. She loved to make wonderful quilts and crochet beautiful doilies, which she gave to her family and many friends. She took great pride in writing a book on the history of the Den Herder and Wynja families. She traveled the world with her husband. She was an active member of Central Reformed Church and loved to teach Sunday school, especially a group of older women.

Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Christian (Chris) Wynja; son, David and Sandra Wynja of Longmont, Colorado; two daughters, Mary and Randy Daughenbaugh of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Linda and Michael De Krey of Orange, Texas; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan and Arthur Van Riessen of Sioux Center and Ruth and Leon Koster of Sioux City.

Preceding her in death were a sister and brother-in-law, Geneva and Bernard Bomgaars; and three infant brothers and one infant sister. The Wynja family prefers memorials be directed to Central Reformed Church or CHEARS Home Health and Hospice.
