The following from Sunday’s Sioux City Journal will be of interest to Hawarden people, as the Grangers are still remembered by the older residents of this community.

Jay W. Granger, 64, Watertown, South Dakota, a resident here and at Hawarden, Iowa, as a child, died Friday of a heart attack.

His father was one of the founders and the first mayor of Hawarden.

Surviving are his widow, Florence (Deveny) Granger; two sons, John and Eugene, both in the service; a daughter, Mrs. Mark Matteehek, Watertown; three sisters, Mrs. Frank M. Kasper, Sioux City, and Mrs. Bertha M. Young and Mrs. Grace M. Boyle, both of St. Paul, and a brother, Tracy J., Crookston, Minnesota.
