Florence A. Peterson, 94, of Hawarden died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004 at the Hawarden Community Hospital. Funeral Service was Feb. 19 at the First Baptist Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Stuart Schreur officiating. Burial is in the Big Springs Baptist Cemetery of rural Alcester. Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden was in charge of arrangements.

Florence A. Peterson was born July 17,1909 in Big Springs Township, Union County, the daughter of Charles and Selma (Leiff) Peterson. Rev. B.L. Carlton baptized her in 1926 at the Big Springs Baptist Church. She attended Petry County School and graduated from the Hawarden High School in 1928. Florence attended business school in Sioux City for one year. She and her twin sister, Fern lived with family members on the Peterson farm near Big Springs. This farm has been in the family for over 100 years. Their father died in 1909 and their mother died in 1915.

She moved into Hawarden in 1996 and to the Hillcrest Health Care Center in January of 1999. She was members of the Union Creek Extension Club, Sioux Valley Extension Club and the Goodwill Class of the First Baptist Church in Hawarden. Her twin sister Fern died March 6, 2000.
