Delbert "Huck" Peters, 81, of rural Spink, S. D., formerly of Hawarden, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 at the Sioux Valley Vermillion, South Dakota Hospital. Funeral service was Jan. 27 at the American Lutheran Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Jeff Swanson officiating. Burial was in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden was in charge of arrangements.

Delbert "Huck" Charles Peters was born Feb. 4, 1922 near Akron, the son of Charles and Margaret (Luschen) Peters. He attended school in Hawarden and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. After his return to the U.S. he met and married Bonnie Jean Dicks on Oct. 25, 1949. He worked for the City of Hawarden Electric Department for 30 non-continuous years and retired in 1984. He was also a member of the Hawarden Volunteer Fire Department for many years. After the death Mrs. Peters in 1991 he resided with his daughter in Spink until his death. He was a member of the Hawarden American Lutheran Church.

Survivors include four sons, Lary Peters of Flandreau, S.D., Terry Peters of Indianola, Iowa, Dave Peters of Summerville, S.C., and Doug Peters of Alcester; one daughter, Holly Solera of Spink; 14 grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; nine sisters; and two
great-grandchildren, Zachary and Tyrel.
