Thomas W. Berry, 86, of Hawarden, formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, Jan. 13,2005 at the Hawarden Community Hospital. Funeral Service was Jan. 19 at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Tim Walker officiating. Burial followed in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden with military rites conducted by the Hawarden American Legion and VFW. Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden was in charge of arrangements.

Thomas W. Berry was born May 3,1918 in Sioux City. He entered the United States Army just prior to the beginning of WWII. He served with the 3rd Armored Division tank crew and was present at the Battle of the Bulge and Normandy. Following the war he married Dorothy Miller on Dec. 27, 1950 at her parent's home in Union County, S. D. They started their married life in Sioux City. Thomas worked as an electrician building power plants and atomic plants in Ohio, Kentucky and South Dakota. They returned to Sioux City in 1962 where he worked with other contractors. He retired in 1982 after working 15 years as an electrician at the Sioux City airport.

The couple moved to Hawarden in October of 2000. Thomas was a member of the IBEW 231, Morningside Masonic Lodge 615, Scottish Rite, Abu Bekr Shrine, the United Methodist Church and the Hawarden American Legion Post 254. He was the past president of the Midwestern Shrine Cycle Corps. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Hawarden; two sisters-in-law, Alice Marie Kopp of Hawarden and Ruth Miller of Sun City, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, J. Quinten Miller of Beresford; and treasured nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Robert Miller.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden with Rev. Tim Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden with military rites conducted by the Hawarden American Legion and VFW. Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday, with a Masonic Service, which is open to the public, at 7:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
