Warren Betten
Warren John Betten, 83, of Orange City died Sunday, December 11, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen. Services were at 1:30 p . m . Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon with the Rev. Kenneth Arnold and the Rev. Keith Krebs officiating. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City.

Betten was born June 13, 1922, at Boyden, the son of Robert and Margaret (Reimers) Betten. He was raised at Boyden, where he attended rural schools. On March 21, 1943, he married Marian Juhl at the Nazareth Lutheran Church at Marcus. They farmed in the Boyden area until 1961, when they moved to a farm south of Games. They farmed there until 1999, when they moved into Orange City. On September 26, 2003, he became a resident of Happy Siesta.

Since 1946, Mr. and Mrs. Betten have been members of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he served on the council and was an usher for many years. They were faithful participants who were never late, even though they had to drive 28 miles. After moving to Orange City, they often attended the American Reformed Church there. He was a talented and devoted farmer all his life. He enjoyed raising livestock, especially hogs and Black Angus cattle. He had the reputation of being a very neat farmer. His wife was his constant companion in all their work and play.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 62 years; his daughter and her husband, Sandra and Alvin J. Nibbelink of Orange City; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Esther Menke of Sheldon; and Deloris and her husband Gary Kopp of Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota; a brother and his wife, Clark and Thedda Betten of Fall River, Kansas; and many nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.

Memorials will be directed to Parkinson's Disease research or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
