Betty Wandscheer, 87, of Sioux Center died Thursday June 17, at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer. Funeral services were Monday at 1 p.m. at Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center with the Rev. R. Van Rathbun officiating. Interment was in WestLawn Cemetery of Orange City.

Anna Beth "Betty" (Van Oosterhout) Wandscheer was born March 27, 1917, to Dirk A. "Dick" and Adrianna (Brolsma) Van Oosterhout in Orange City. She was raised in Orange City and graduated from Northwestern Junior Academy. During her childhood, her father raised horses. She too grew to have a fondness for horses and animals in general. As an adult she developed a talent for playing the organ, a pastime she enjoyed throughout her life.

On January 15, 1940, she married Harold D. Wandscheer in Orange City. Following their marriage, they resided in Sioux Center where he owned Wandscheer Manufacturing. He preceded her in death on April 18, 2002. She was a member of Central Reformed Church of Sioux Center. She was a private person; however, for many years developed the practice of sewing sleepwear for needy children which she donated to various organizations in Northwest Iowa. She had a strong affection for the boxer dogs the couple had in their home over the years. Throughout her life she maintained a great love for animals and had a constant concern for animal welfare. She had been a resident of Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley since 1997 where she received wonderful care for her particular health concerns.

Surviving is her daughter, Mary Ann Wandscheer of Tucker, Georgia. She was also preceded in death by her infant son, Dennis James Wandscheer. The family prefers memorials be directed to Central Reformed Church to be used for worship service broadcasting.
