CLARINE WESTRA
Mrs. Clarine Westra, age 85, of Orange City, passed away Saturday, August 21, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City. There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, August 24, at 10:30am, in the chapel of the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Steven Vander Molen will officiate. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation was after 4:00pm Monday at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Clarine was born June 18, 1919, at Orange City, the daughter of Peter and Johanna Wilhelmina (Kleinwolterink) De Vries. She was raised on a farm between Sioux Center and Orange City. On December 14, 1938, she married Henry Westra at Bellflower, California. They lived in Bellflower a few years, and then moved to a farm southwest of Orange City. About 1950, they moved into Orange City. In July of 2002, she became a resident of the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. In September of 2002, she transferred to the Heritage House.

In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Westra was a nurses' aide at the Sioux Center Community Hospital for a few years. For about twenty years, she was an aide and ward clerk at the Orange City Municipal Hospital, a job she really enjoyed. She was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she participated in the women's organizations. She liked sewing, handwork, and caring for her flowers.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years; a son, Alvin Westra, of Orange City; a daughter, Karen Brunemeier, of Orange City; a granddaughter, Carissa Brunemeier, "the apple of Grandma's eye"; and a brother, Peter De Vries, of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bert, Herman, and John De Vries; and six sisters, Johanna De Beer, Hattie De Groot, Myna Fallow, Arta Huisman, Dena Jonker, and Winifred Van Muyden. Memorials may be directed to the Cancer Society.
