Maurice Van Voorst, 83, of Rock Valley, died Wednesday. September 1, 2004, at Valley Manor at Rock Valley. Funeral Service was 2:00 p.m. Saturday at First Reformed Church. Burial at Valley View Cemetery. Rev. Mike Van Hamersveld officiated.

Maurice was born April 1, 1921, at Sioux Center, IA. He worked for Van Voorst Transfer Trucking Company before and after serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Maurice married Lucy Bleeker at Passaic, NJ, on September 25, 1943. After attending diesel mechanic school in Chicago, IL, Maurice worked for HiWay Chevy before starting his own auto repair business. He was also a maintenance person for Hope Haven and later was the manager of Community Oil when they built their new facilities. Maurice retired to design and build homes and enjoy his hobby of woodworking. Maurice served on Rock Valley City Council for many years and was Mayor of Rock Valley 1985-1991. Lucy died July 26,2002.

Maurice is survived by his son Maurice Jr. of Saint Petersburg, FL; daughter, Carol (Lyle) Rozeboom of Rochester. MN: sister, Jeanette (Bill) Van Den Top of Rock Valley; 6 grandchildren, Aaron, Nathan, David and wife Anne, Debra Rozeboom, Brooke and Michael Van Voorst.
