Pearl R. Klay
Pearl Ruth Klay, 78, of Hull died Wednesday, February 9, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital Nursing Facility. Funeral service was Saturday, February 12, at 9:30 a.m. at First Christian Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Carl Klompien officiating. Interment was at the Hope Cemetery in Hull.

Mrs. Klay was born on February4, 1927, near Platte, South Dakota, the daughter of Harko and Jennie(Holleman) De Boer. She was raised at Platte, until the age of 11, when she moved to Hollandale, Minnesota, where she graduated from theeighth grade. On January 12, 1950,she married Percy G. Roskamp in Titonka. They resided near Belmond and later moved to Clarion. He died September 2, 1964, in Belmond.

She then moved to Kanawha with her five children. On July 25, 1966, she married Herman Vander Ploeg in Kenawha. They made their home in Hull. He died December17, 1976, in Hull.

On May 16, 1987, she married Roger E. Klay in Hull. They continued to live in Hull. Hedied on January 1, 2003, in Hull. She was a member of First ChristianReformed Church and attendedthe Coffee Break Bible Study.She enjoyed reading, gardening and being with her families, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker and also a certified nurse's aide at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull for 15 years.

Survivors include her two daughters, Patricia and her husband Harlan Moss of New Bern, North Carolina, and Paula Huston of Des Moines; three sons, Philip Roskamp and his wife Dawn of Sioux Falls, Palmer Roskamp of Alton and Preston Roskamp of New Braunfels, Texas; six stepchildren, Cathryn and her husband Corwin Schaaf of Spring Lake, Michigan, Bruce VanderPloeg and his wife Karen of Sioux Center, Arlen Vander Ploeg and his wife Sally, of Prescott Valley, Arizona, T. J. Klay and his wife Eloise of Nashville, Tennessee, Mary and her husband Roland Van Zee of Monroe and Nancy and her husband David Van Holland of Sioux Center; 12 grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; six sisters, Marie Tillema of De Motte, Indiana, Louise Boverhuis of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Esther Workman of Falmouth, Michigan, Jennie Loverink of Hollandale and Evelyn Christians and Viola Eekhoff, both of Kanawha; two brothers and their wives, Wendell and Tena De Boer of Hollandale and Paul and Kathleen De Boer of Albert Lea; two sisters-in-law, Alice and Lena De Boer, both of Hollandale; two brothers-in-law, William Bos of Albert Lea and Bert Coeling of Kanawha; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by an infant grandson; three sisters; and three brothers. Memorials will be directed to the Gideons and to Hospice.
