Died: February 20, 2003 Sioux City, Iowa

Gerald "Jerry" Hoftyzer, 56, of Boyden died of acute Leukemia Thurs. Feb. 20, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at First Reformed Church of Boyden, with the Rev. Ralph A. Pontier officiating. Burial will be in Sheridan Township Cemetery, Boyden. Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center is in charge of arrangements.

Gerald L. "Jerry" Hoftyzer was born to Gerold and Inez (Bonnes) Hoftyzer on Aug. 4, 1946 in Worthington, MN. Jerry grew up on the family farm west of Allendorf, IA. and graduated from Ocheyedan High School in 1964. He served 13 months in Vietnam with the U.S. Marines.

He married Audrey Van Roekel on Aug. 24, 1967, in Boyden. The couple lived at Allendorf where he was employed at the Allendorf CO-OP Elevator. In 1974 they began farming south of Boyden.

Jerry was presently a member of Redeemer United Reformed Church in Orange City and also a member of the American Legion in Boyden.

Survivors include his wife Audrey of Boyden; a daughter and son-in-law Kayla and Kevin Rosenboom of Boyden; a son and daughter-in-law Crag and Kristin Hoftyzer of Sheldon, IA.; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Morgan Rosenboom and Isaac and Jacob Hoftyzer; his parents, Gerold and Inez Hoftyzer of Worthington, MN; a brother and sister-in-law Howard and Ricki Hoftyzer of Rushmore, MN; three sisters and brothers-in-law Irene and Hank Eggink of Littleton, CO, Colleen and Ivan Van Berkum of Sioux Center, and Myrna and Marvin Van't Hull of Hull; his father-in-law, Abe J. (Gert) Van Roekel of Boyden and numerous nieces and nephews.
