Died: October 7, 2005 Sheldon, Iowa

John Lode, 91, Sheldon, died Fri. Oct. 7 at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.

Services were Mon. Oct. 10, at First Reformed Church in Sheldon, with the Revs. David Bower and Gordon Bloemendaal officiating. Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

John Lode, son of Cornelis and Dena (Buysman) Lode was born February 2, 1914 in rural Boyden. He received his education in country schools near Archer. He married Hermina Oldenkamp on March 6, 1940 on her parents farm place near Boyden. They made their home on a farm north of Sanborn for 14 years,later moving to a farm on Country Club Road north of Sheldon, where they farmed until retirement in 1977. They built a new home in Sheldon and moved into town that same year.

He was a member of First Reformed Church in Sheldon. He enjoyed spending time at the Sheldon Regional Airport, Glen's Sport Center and K&J Cycle. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a real handyman; he could fabricate almost anything that he needed.

Survivors include his wife, Hermina "Mina" Lode of Sheldon; a son, Arlan and Jane Lode of Sheldon; a daughter, Edna and Dennis Vaselaar of Ashton; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Werner Lode of Sanborn, Henry and Wilma Lode of Sheldon, Herman and Jennie Lode of Sheldon and Gerrit and Rose Lode of Sheldon; and two sisters, Marie and Gilbert Van Veldhuizen of Sheldon and Cornelia Oldenkamp of Sheldon.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dick and Carl Lode.
