Funeral services will be Sat., Feb. 21, for Andy Gustad, 78, Yankton, who died Feb. 17, 2004, at his home. The Revs. Shane Van Dorin and Jack Smith will officiate in Calvary Baptist Church at Yankton, and burial will in Zion Cemetery, rural Volin.

Casketbearers will be Ed Gilbertson, Ordell Gustad, David Hovden, Dan Kolberg, Alec Solberg and Gary VanWettering.

Visitation at the Ray, Cantrell & Wintz Funeral Home in Yankton.

Gustad was born May 7, 1925, in Volin to Andrew Sr. and Lena (Johnson) Gustad. He attended grade school at Pleasant Valley and graduated from Volin High School in 1943.

He was drafted into the Army in 1945, where he served in the Philippines during World War II. He was discharged as a sergeant in 1946.

On June 25, 1957, he married Gertrude Schreur in Alton, Iowa. From 1946 to 1999, he farmed on the family farm with his father and later with his wife and family. He and Gertrude moved to Yankton in 1999.

He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served on many boards.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude of Yankton; three daughters, Jeanine (Dave) Reed of Madison, Sandra (Dave) Rooks of Hot Springs, and Donna (Steve) Witthuhn of Palouse, Wash.; two sons, Rodney (Linda) of Roanoke, Va., and Jerry (Amy) of Volin; 17 grandchildren; three sisters, Ardis Ashcroft of Philadelphia, Pa., Dorothy Sandefer of East Lansing, Mich., and Betty Rundell of Sioux Falls; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marcine Gilbertson.
