Ralph W. Gregg, Jr. 86, of Hawarden, Iowa died Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the Associated Church in Hawarden with Rev. Rick Kargard officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Friday, with the family present from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. and a Prayer Service at 7 P.M. at the Associated Church. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is in charge of the arrangements.

Ralph W. Gregg, Jr. was born August 28, 1920 in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Jennie (Frazee) Gregg. He graduated from Hawarden High School in 1937 and attended Iowa State College. He returned to farm with his father in 1939. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1944 and was stationed at Camp Kearney Air Base in San Diego until being discharged in 1945.

Ralph married Helen M. Bruget July 17, 1946 at her family farm near Hawarden. They moved to the Gregg Family Farm, a Century Farm, in 1947 where he again farmed and fed cattle with his father. The couple had two children, Barbara Jeanne and Charles Milford.

Ralph was one of the first in the area to terrace his land, which, along with other conservation methods, he was awarded a “Soil Conservation Farm” in 1968.

He loved animals, music and attending all of the high school music events. Ralph and Helen enjoyed dancing to the Big Bands, square dancing, camping, and traveling, abroad and throughout the United States. Ralph was a lifetime member of the Associated Church and a 21 year cancer survivor.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; a daughter, Barbara Clark of Sioux City; a son, Chuck and his wife Susan living on the family farm near Hawarden; 6 Grandchildren, Katherine Henderson and husband Ty and their son Evan of Austin, Texas, Todd Clark of Phoenix, Arizona, Rachael Clark of Los Angeles, California, Cameron Gregg and wife Heidi and their children, Calvin and Chloe of Omaha, Nebraska, Curtis Gregg and wife Aubrey of Decatur, Illinois, and Jennie Gregg of Kansas City, Missouri; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Ludwigs and husband Art of Hawarden.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Dr. Richard Clark; and a brother, Arthur Gregg.

The family prefers memorials be directed to the Associated Church or Hospice of Siouxland.
