CAPABLE YOUNG MAN IN PRIME OF LIFE PASSES AWAY MONDAY AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS

Harry M. Gregg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Moses and Anna (Shaffer)Gregg of this city, passed away at his home east of town Monday at 11:30 A.M. He contracted influenza several weeks ago. Everything possible was done to relieve him, but in vain, for his case was serious from the beginning.

He was born October 18, 1894, at Gladbrook, Iowa, and moved with his parents to Cherokee in 1901 and to Hawarden in 1902. He graduated from Hawarden High School in 1913and from Ames in 1917. For a year after graduation from college he filled the position of assistant county agent of this county. He was married to Miss Flora MacKinnon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. MacKinnon of this city, on February 27, 1918. He is survived by his wife, father and mother and three brothers, Ralph and Warren of this city and William, now in the officers’ training camp at Fort Monroe, Virginia.

The services were conducted from the Presbyterian Church Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock by Rev. A.M. McIntosh, the pastor. The choir, composed of Mrs. W.F. Wolf, Miss Carrie Smith, Dr. W.E. Madson and W.S. Weaver, sang very appropriate selections. The pallbearers were Harold Shoemaker, Fred Vernon, Sherman French, Robert Nolan and Mile Watkins of Hawarden and Oscar Syerud of Hudson, young men who have been closely associated with him.

His death came as a great shock to his many acquaintances and warm personal friends. He was beloved by all who knew him for his happy, hearty and genial disposition. He was one of Hawarden’s most popular and capable young men--a true type of American young manhood. His prospects in life were of the brightest. His industrial habits were prophetic of a successful career.

He will be greatly missed in the home, the community and in the church. The sympathy of the community goes out to the sorrowing ones at this time. The relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral were: Roy Gregg of Montrose, South Dakota; Miss Isabelle Gregg of Murdo, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Thomas of Brunsville, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brodie of Le Mars; George Dunlop of Orange City and Miss Irene Walters of Gladbrook, Iowa. Interment was made in Grace Hill Cemetery.
