Bertha Rensink, 88, of Sioux Center died Thursday, March 4, at the Sioux Center Community Nursing Facility. A memorial service was March 8 at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with the Rev. Roger Voskuil officiating. Interment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Mrs. Rensink was born near Hawarden on August 24, 1915, to Gerrit W. and Christine (Kosters) Vreeman. She was raised on the family farm near Sioux Center,attending country school nearby. On February 6, 1935, she was married Marinus Rensink at her parent’s home. Following their marriage the couple farmed for many years in Welcome Township near Sioux Center, Over the years, she was active in the community supporting 4-H, and in its early years organized the Hospital Auxiliary food stand at the Sioux County Fair. She was a member of First Reformed Church of Sioux Center where she taught Sunday school and catechism and participated in Priscilla Circle. She also was devoted to visiting shut-ins and providing them food. She treasured her family. She loved spending time with children and grandchildren, and was extremely close to her siblings and nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her three children, Delma Vander Schaaf of Sioux Center, Karen and Harm Oldenkamp of Lakeland, Florida, and Merlyn and Linda Rensink of Sioux Center; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, a sister, Etta Heusinkveld of Sioux Center; sisters-in-law, Sena Vreeman of Sheldon and Marie Shepherd of Edgerton, Minnesota; Brother-in-law, Henry Heynen of Sioux Center; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; son-in-law, Donald Vander Schaaf; an infant son; nine brothers and sisters, John Vreeman, Hein Vreeman, Gerdena De Vries, Dick Vreeman, Christine Den Herder, Gertrude De Bdom, Bill Vreeman, Ella Den Herder, Lenora Heynen and two others in infancy. The family requests memorial be directed to the Organ Fund at First Reformed Church or CHEARS Hospice & Home Health.
