Christina Berentschot, 85, of Inwood died Sat. May 31 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Funeral service was 10:30 a.m. Wed. at Christian Reformed Church Inwood, with the Rev. Rich Kooistra officiating. Burial was in Richland Cemetery at Inwood.

Mrs. Berentschot was born August 21, 1922, at Leersum, the Netherlands, daughter of Case and Wilhelmina (Vander Brink) Van Dyk. During W. W. II she worked in an aunt's bakery in Amsterdam, Holland, and helped deliver an underground newspaper. She married Henry Berentschot on Dec. 11, 1947 at Leersum, the Netherlands. They immigrated to the U.S. to the Maurice area in 1949 and began farming west of Sioux Center in 1952. In 1960, the family moved northwest of Inwood where they farmed until 1975 when they moved to the southwest corner of Inwood. Her husband died August 19, 2003. She moved to the Fellowship Village Apartments in 2003.

She was an avid book reader, had helped cook at the Inwood Christian School, and enjoyed knitting for her family.

She is survived by four sons, Erv (Lee), Harlan (Marilyn), Brian (Caren) all of Inwood, and LeRoy of Rock Valley; four daughters, Hennie (Glenn) Serck, Chris (Kel) Faber, Gracia (Roger) Bootsma, all of Inwood, and Willie (Denny) Wrede, Brandon, S.D.; 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; brothers, Will and Derek Van Dyk; and sister Cora Vos, all of the Netherlands.

She was also preceded in death by a grandchild; five brothers; and one sister.
