A large gathering of old friends and neighbors of Miss Mabel B. Hammond gathered at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Saturday afternoon to pay their last respect. Rev. George Scheider was in charge of the services.

Miss Mabel Hammond, a former resident of Ireton, passed away at her home at Covina, California, Sunday morning, July 31st. She was a daughter of David and Elizabeth Benton Hammond and was born at Maple Grove farm., near Struble, September 19, 1882, where she grew to womanhood and spent most of her life. She was educated in the rural schools and for a time attended the State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. Miss Hammond looked after the household duties in her father’s home near Struble for many years but in 1921 Mr. Hammond retired and they moved to Covina, California, where Miss Hammond lived until her death. During her long residence in this community, Miss Hammond made many friends through her friendly and genial disposition. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Louise Bushby, and one nephew and two nieces and a cousin, Miss Eva Stillman, all of Covina, California, and another cousin, Mrs. Grace Benton-Seizer of Pacific Grove, California, and a niece and four nephews at Judd, North Dakota.
