Funeral services were Monday, November 3, 1997, at 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Sheldon, Iowa for Lawrence A. Den Hartog. The Rev. Dr. Bruce Ursin was in charge of the service. Arrangements were made by Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, Iowa and interment was at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa.

Lawrence Alfred Den Hartog, the son of Jake and Merle Horn Den Hartog was born September 30, 1914 near Boyden, Iowa. He lived his youth and attended school at Sheldon, Iowa. On November 28, 1935 he was unite in marriage to Johanna Langstraat at Newkirk, Iowa. He loved to fly and got his pilots license in 1936. In the beginning of W.W. II he got his flight instructors rating at Iowa City, then was sent to Waterloo, Iowa to teach students under the C.P.T. Program. Following W.W.II the couple farmed and managed airports in Clarion, Eagle Grove and Webster City, Iowa. Also, during this time he was an ambulance pilot and a licensed examiner for pilots for 17 years. The couple moved back to Sheldon in 1972. He passed away on Thursday, October 30, 1997 at the Northwest Iowa Health Center reaching the age of 83 years and 1 month.

He was a member of the Sheldon United Methodist Church and had served as a trustee and on the Building Committee.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Jo of Sheldon; two brothers, Elmer and his wife, June Den Hartog and Donald and his wife, Dorothy Den Hartog all of Sheldon; two sisters, Ethel and her husband, Howard Kuyper of Sheldon and Lois and her husband, Chris Van Meeteren of Boyden; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Den Hartog of Clarion, Iowa; special friends, David and Edna Price, Mary and Luann Donkersloot, Rita and Gary Hogue and Randy and Sandy Brouwer; many nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Alvin and Howard.
