James D. Grooters, age 65, of Wayzata, Minnesota, formerly of Orange City, died Thursday, July 22, 1993 at a hospital in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, after a long illness

Memorial services were held Monday, July 26, at 2:00 P.M. at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Robert Hector officiated. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City.

James was born September 26, 1927 at Boyden, the son of Albert and Minnie (De Witt) Grooters. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School and attended Iowa State University before entering the armed services. He later graduated from Hope College in Holland, Michigan.

In 1953 he married Leona Duven at Orange City. They lived in Illinois, New Jersey, New York and Minnesota where he was a chemical engineer for 39 years. In 1992 he retired from Data Card.

Survivors include his daughter, Susan Grooters of San Francisco, California; a son, Howard Grooters of Seattle, Washington; a sister, Carole Nilsson of Owatonna, Minnesota, and a brother, Robert Grooters of Alton.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1986.

Memorials are being directed to the American Lung Association.
