Larry Gerritsen, 12 year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gerritsen of Rock Valley, was killed at Rock Valley Saturday morning when he swerved his bicycle in front of a car driven by Gerrit J. Vander Stouwe of Rock Valley on Highway 18, two blocks east of the Rock Valley business section. Investigating officers called the accident “unavoidable.” No charges were filed. The boy reportedly was eating a carmel apple at the time of the mishap.

Funeral services were held at 1 P.M. Tuesday from Vander Ploeg funeral Home and at 1:30 P.M. from the Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. The Rev. Milton Doornbos officiated and burial was made in the Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley.

Survivors besides his parents include two sisters, Mona and Denise; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arie Gerritsen of Rock Valley, and a maternal grandfather, Gerrit Wanningen of Sioux Center.
