Leonard Feldhacker, 83, of Hawarden, formerly of the Maurice, area died Thursday, July 7, 2005 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden. The Funeral Mass was July 12 at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble, with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial followed in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Maurice, with military rites by the American Legion Bertram Post #276 of Ireton. Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Leonard Feldhacker was born Oct. 13, 1921 in Crofton, Neb., the son of Peter and Rose (Hoss)
Feldhacker. He grew up on a farm near Beaver Creek, Neb. He joined the US Marine Corps in April of 1945 and served during WWII until August 1946. Leonard married Beatrice Puhl on March 8,1945 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hawarden. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Maurice area the majority of their married lives. They retired in the early 1980's and moved to a farm southwest of Struble. Beatrice died on April 21, 2000. Leonard was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble and also Our Lady of Hope Council 4132, Knights of Columbus. He was a 59- year member of the American Legion Bertram Post
#276 of Ireton, Iowa.

Survivors include two sons, Bill of Hawarden and Ted of Ireton; a daughter, Shirley Eisma of Maurice; a brother, Vern of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two sisters, Agnes Litz of Hartington, Neb. and Elsie Haberer of Donna, Texas; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Leonard was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice; brother, Chuck; sisters Leona Vavricek and Christine Myers; and 13 stepbrothers and sisters.
