Robert E. Gray, 69, of Akron, formerly of Hawarden, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005 at the Akron City Convalescent Care Center in Akron. Memorial Service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, 2005 at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden with the Rev. Stuart Schreur officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will follow at the Riverside Cemetery at Akron.

Robert E. Gray was born June 1, 1936 in Sioux City, the son of Willis and Mary (Baldwin) Gray. He was schooled in Sioux City and baptized in 1940. Robert was confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church at Merrill, Aug. 4, 1961. Robert was employed at Myer Pack in Sioux City during the 1950's to the early 1960's and from 1966 to 1985 at the South Sioux City Nebraska Foundry. He married Shirley Allen on Feb. 24,1956. Robert was a former Eagles Club member in Sioux City and a lifetime member of the North American Fisherman’s Club.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Akron; four sons, Robert Gray of Hudson, Russell Gray of Sioux City, Rory Gray of Sioux City and Shane Gray of Fort Dodge; two daughters, Vickie Hanson of South Sioux City, and Tammy Reinert of Archer, Iowa; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a special aunt, Rose Carter of Akron; three sisters-in-law, Laila Gray of Sioux City, Charlene Barrett of Chatsworth and Beverly Jeffers of Sioux City; a brother-in-law, Larry Allen of Sioux City . Robert was preceded in death by a brother, Willis Gray; sisters, Mary Rotto and Pat Rice; son-in-law, Gary Hanson; a granddaughter, Dawn Gray; a brother-in-law, Bud Barrett; a sister in- law, Pamela Allen; and a niece, Karla Merrick.
