Sioux County Soldier Boy Dead.

Nelson McKellar, who enlisted in Co. F. of the 1st South Dakota Volunteers, which regiment was sent to the Philippines, was reported in Monday's Sioux City Journal as dead in the hospital at Manila. Smallpox was the disease. The young man was a cousin of our Fred McKellar in the State Bank of Hull and a nephew of County Supervisor Blatherwick. McKellar endeavored to get into Co. E last spring but failing, joined the South Dakota regiment. This regiment saw some of the severe fighting at Manila and has won a great name for itself. It brings the results of war nearer home to our people when the boys from this section appear among the lists of those killed or wounded. McKellar was well known at Rock Valley and well liked. His parents are both dead but he has brothers and sisters who mourn his sacrifice of life, also a young lady with whom he had plighted troth before leaving on his stern errand of duty.
