The community of Ireton was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Miss Susan DeVries, which occurred at her home early last Friday morning. She had been suffering from poor health for some time and she had been taking treatments to remedy her ailment. The end came quite unexpectedly as her parents were unaware of her approaching death.

The deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter DeVries, who reside north of Ireton. She was born June 3, 1905, and passed away May 29, 1925, so was 19 years, 11 months and 26 days old at the time of her death. She attended the Ireton High School and had just finished her four year course, graduating with the class of 1925. She had made preparations to enroll in summer school work and had secured a school for the coming year. Her ambitions and ideals were of the highest and often sacrifices were made to attain them. She was held in highest esteem by her friends and classmates.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, the Rev. L.N. Moody, the pastor, officiating. Six young men classmates acted as pallbearers and the other members of the class attended in a body. A quartette composed of Clifford Thomas, Dorothy Carpenter, Sophie Ricklefs and Abraham Schouten sang, “Safe in the Arms of Jesus” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.” Interment was made in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton. Besides her parents she is survived by two brothers and three sisters, Harry DeVries of Rock Rapids, Mrs. Chas. Jager and Mrs. B. Simonsen of Hudson and Walter and Mary who reside at home.

The entire community extends sincere sympathy to the bereaved family in their sorrow.
