Sioux County Capital of Nov 1, 1984

Peter Haarsma, 80, of rural Orange City died Wednesday, Oct. 24 at his home. Services were held Monday, Oct. 29 at 1:30 p.m. in the First Christian Reformed Church, Orange City. Rev. Thomas Vanden Heuvel officiated. Burial was in Sherman Township Cemetery, Maurice, under the direction of the Van Gelder Funeral Home, Orange City.

Mr. Haarsma was born June 26, 1904, in Middleburg, the son of Henry and Mary (Groot) Haarsma. He married Nelvina Vander Stoep Jan. 27, 1929, at Orange City. She died Aug. 12, 1971. He farmed in the Maurice area for many years. Mr. Haarsma was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church.

Survivors include four sons, Henry P. of Orange City, Andrew and Peter, both of Hartley and Lee of Grand Rapids, Mich, two daughters, Mrs. Mark (Mary) Huibregtse of Oosburg, Wis., and Mrs. Gilmer (Ruth) Romeyn of Grand Rapids; two brothers, Clarence of Maurice and Henry of Orange City; two sisters, Mrs. Nell Reinders and Mrs. Dora Visser, both of Orange City; 14 grand children and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter, Wilma, two infant sons and three sisters.
