Sioux County Capital of May 24, 1990

Clarence Haarsma, 80, of rural Maurice, died Tuesday, May 15 at his farm home. Clarence was born May 14, 1910 on a farm at Sioux Center, the son of Henry Haarsma and Mary Groot Haarsma. When he was a child, his family moved to a farm northwest of Maurice.

On Feb. 20, 1935 he married Alice Jasper near Orange City. They lived two miles west of where Clarence was raised. In 1947 they moved to the Haarsma family farm which he farmed the rest of his life. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Orange City

Survivors include his wife – two sons, Harold and his wife Rosalie of Hospers, and Eugene of Orange City; three daughters, Geraldine and her husband Jerry Faber of Lynden, Wash.; Mary and her husband Robert Eisma of Ireton, and Dorothy and her husband Franklin Noteboom of Orange City; 19 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a brother, Henry of Orange City.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter in- law, Fritz; a brother and five sisters.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 18 at the First Christian Reformed Church of Orange City with the Rev. Ralph A. Pontier officiating, interment-followed at West Lawn Cemetery, under direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
