From the Sioux County Bee, February 10, 1899: Hull Happenings:

Wednesday evening a telegram came announcing very sad news for Mr. and Mrs. Jansma, their little boy Johnny, one of nature's afflicted ones, who was taken to Glenwood last summer, having died from inflammation of the lungs. The remains arrived Friday afternoon and were interred in Hope cemetery. Funeral service was held in the Reformed church. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of the whole community in their sorrow.

A couple of news notes in earlier issues of the Hull Index gives some additional information:

August 26, 1898: Little Johnnie Jansma was taken to Glenwood Wednesday and will enter the school for the feeble minded. The little fellow has many warm friends among the children, who will hope to see him return greatly benefitted. Not to see Johnny daily on the street with "my buggy" as he called his little cart, will cause many to recall his fond amusement.

January 27, 1899: Mr. J. Jansma left Tuesday for Glenwood to see little Johnny, who is seriously ill. A telegram to the mother on Wednesday stated but little hopes for the lad's recovery.

(He may be the son of Hull blacksmith John Jansma.)
