Biography

Donna J. Weatherly, 82, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at a local care facility. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 11, 2014 at Morningside Lutheran Church. Visitation with the family present will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Donna was born on July 18, 1931 in Ireton, IA; she was the daughter of Cornielius "Cornie" and Viola Morrison DeRaad. As a young girl, Donna grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1949. She received her nursing training from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux City, IA, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1952. On May 10, 1953 she was united in marriage to Robert L. Weatherly.

She worked for St. Luke's Hospital, Westwood Nursing Home and Dr's McFarland and Vaught. She furthered her education by receiving her Bachelor of Applied Science from Westmar College in 1977. She received her Master of Arts from The University of South Dakota in 1979. She then taught at WITCC and St. Luke's School of Nursing until her retirement. While teaching at St. Luke's, she co-authored a surgical/sterile technique textbook. She will always be remembered as a strict and fair instructor, but she always had your back.

Donna was a member of First Lutheran Church where she was active in church activities and organizations. She was currently a member of Morningside Lutheran Church. She was a longtime member of AORN. Donna enjoyed boating, camping, traveling and embroidery handiwork. Her Children, Grandchildren and Family were very important to her. We will miss her very much!

Survivors include her children: Steven Weatherly and his wife Judy of Sioux City; Marla Harris and her husband Keith of Fayetteville, AR; son-in-law, Paul Loven of Portland, ME; 7 grandchildren: Nathan Weatherly and his wife Julie, Brianna Weatherly, Benjamin Loven and his wife Jennie, Hannah Hanson and her husband Corey, Thomas Loven, Mollie Harris and Sarah Harris, 5 great grandchildren: Reese and Dane Weatherly, Anders and Annika Loven and Blake Hanson. A brother Robert DeRaad and his wife Theresa of Greeley, CO; a sister Shirley Van Ravenswaay of Montevideo, MN; sisters-in-laws, Fiddy Hamann and her husband Melvin of Luverne, MN; Karyn Boer and her husband Clarence of Larchwood, IA; brother-in-law, Hank Timmermans of George, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her daughter Linda Loven, her parents-in-law Bruce and Phyllis Weatherly, brother-in-law Richard Van Ravenswaay, and sister-in-law Marybelle Timmermans.
