Hawarden Independent After April 8, 1945

Mrs. Patrick Gorman, a former resident of Hawarden, died at Canton, SD, Sunday, where the family had resided since 1908.

Katherine Herigan, was born in Crawford county, Wis., on May 8, 1866 and died at Canton, SD. on April 8, 1945. She was united in marriage with Patrick Gorman on March 25 1898. They lived at Jewell, Eagle Grove, Bradgate, Sioux Rapids and Peterson before coming to Hawarden in 1900. Mr. Gorman was employed on the Northwestern railway here until they moved to Canton in 1908.

To this union nine children were born: John L. Gorman, Huron, SD; Mrs. Martin Connaughon, Lemon, SD; Walter Gorman, Algona, IA; Margaret Gorman, Chicago; Maurice Gorman, with the armed forces somewhere in France; Phillip Gorman, Leesburg, FL; Elmer and Raymond Gorman at home in Canton.

Three children preceded the mother in death, Mary, Catherine and Paul. Mr. Gorman died in 1930, he and his son, Paul having been murdered by bandits while visiting relatives in Wisconsin. Twenty grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survived Mrs. Gorman.

Funeral services will be held at the Catholic church in Canton at 9 o'clock Thursday morning and the remains will be brought to Hawarden for interment and service will be held at the grave.
