At the Tomb.

Miss Nellie Jensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Jensen, after a brief illness, passed into the great beyond early Monday morning. It was difficult, even after a consultation of physicians, to determine just what the ailment was. She was taken sick Thursday, Oct. 18. Her condition was not considered critical until just a few hours before her death, when it was thought advisable to call council.

Miss Nellie was born Jan. 18, 1879. She was of an amiable disposition and a girl of more than ordinary ambition, and among her girlhood companions was a favorite. She was a graduate from the public school of the class of '97. At one time since her graduation she was a student of the State Normal at Cedar Falls, with her sister Carrie, who is at present a student of that institution. At the time of taking sick, she was teaching one of the schools in Lincoln township. Her life was so full of promise for a bright and happy future, that it makes it seem doubly sad that one so young should be called away. It may be well however, that these mysterious dispensations of Providence are not revealed to us now.

The funeral services of Miss Nellie were held Wednesday afternoon in the Armory of Co. E, which was filled to overflowing with sympathizing friends and neighbors. Rev. Mahood, assisted by Rev. Kershaw, officiated. On the platform sat a score of bright but sorrowful companions of Miss Nellie, members of the circle of "Kings Daughters." The rostrum, together with the casket was bedecked with beautiful floral tributes from the Epworth League, the circle of King's daughters and other friends. The remains were laid to rest in Hope cemetery.

(In the same issue of the Index: Among those from abroad attending the funeral of Nellie Jensen were Mrs. Nelson Jensen, of Mitchel, S. Dak., Miss Colita Jensen, daughter of Conrad Jensen, also of Mitchel, and Miss Kate Murphy, of Elm Springs, a devoted friend of the deceased.)

(A brief news note about her illness in the Hull Index of October 21, 1898, says that she was suffering from an attack of pleurisy.)
