Miss Rebecca Gerdes, 78, passed away at the family home better known as the Gerdes farm in Washington township early last Thursday morning following several months sickness. She was the eldest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. J. Gerdes and is survived by one sister, Hanah Gerdes; two brothers, one sister and her parents preceded her in death. She was widely known as a dressmaker and seamstress of exceptional ability and did a great deal of work here and at Hawarden during the past years. Funeral services were held from the Lutheran church at Hawarden Sunday afternoon and the remains were brought to Ireton where they were interred in the family burial plot in the St. Paul cemetery. Miss Gerdes was of a kindly unassuming disposition and was universarily loved.
Many friends will mourn her passing and deepest sympathy is extended to the only remaining sister who is thus bereft of a life long companionship.
