Hawarden Independent, April 19, 1917

Word has been received in Hawarden of the death of Miss Essie F. Smith which occurred at Enid, Okla., April 2nd, from typhoid fever. The deceased lived in Hawarden with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Ed. Smith, in the early days of the town and has many acquaintances among the older citizens here. She was a trained nurse and for some time had charge of a big hospital in Oklahoma but for several months past had been doing private nursing at Enid. Her illness was of a very short duration. She was about 41 years of age and is survived by her mother and sister, Lucy.
