From the Sioux County Bee, August 27, 1898: Hospers News:
Mrs. K. Vroom, living about six miles north, died suddenly Saturday evening. She leaves a husband and several small children.

From the same issue: Boyden Letter:
Mrs. Koen Proom died at her home of exhaustion Saturday. She was well Friday and took care of a crew of threshers but before Saturday night came she was no more. She leaves a husband and seven children, besides many warm friends to mourn her loss and it is indeed a severe blow to the beloved family.

Iowa Marriages 1851-1900: Coenraad Vroom and Sygie Den Hartog, married 10 Jan. 1879 in Marion County [probably Pella].

Iowa Births and Christenings Index 1857-1947: Henry Vroom, born 23 Oct. 1891 in Floyd Township, Sioux County, son of Koen Vroom (age 36) and [no forename] Den Hartog (age 32); and George Vroom, born 25 Oct. 1897 in Carroll, O'Brien County [just down the road from Boyden and Hospers], son of Koen Vroom and Jennie Dehortic.

The 1900 U.S. census has Coenrad Vroom, age 43, widowed, farmer, with sons Willie (17), James (13), Cornie (11) and Henry (8) and housekeeper Marie Bilkes (26) living in Lake Prairie Township, Marion County.

The 1905 Iowa state census has Koen and Mrs. K. Vroom, Antonia G. and Peter Klein, and Adrianes, Cornelius, Hendrick, and Johanna W. Vroom (no ages for any) living in Pella, Marion County.

The 1915 Iowa state census has Koen Vroom, age 61, farmhand (card #667), Buss[?] H. Vroom age 57[?] (#668), Cornelius age 27 (#669), Henry age 24 (#670), and Gerrit age 16 (#671), living in Pella.

A brief obituary of Koenrad Vroom, age 71, in the Nov. 11, 1926 Pella Chronicle says he is survived by 6 sons and one daughter. His wife had died March 4, 1925; her obit says her marriage to K. was her second, and her first husband was Gerrit Klein.
