Sioux County Capital October 29, 1992

Mrs. Etta Harmelink, age 77, of Orange City died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1992 at Marian Health Center in Sioux City. A prayer service was held at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, Oct 23 at the Van Etten- Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City, followed by graveside services at 1:30 p.m. at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. A memorial service was held at, 2:00 p.m. at the First Reformed Church in Orange City, the Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiated.

Etta was born July 26, 1915 at Sanborn, the daughter of George, Sr., and Jennie (Siebersma) De Vries. She was raised in northwest Iowa. On Feb. 13,1935 she married Henry Harmelink at Orange City. Except for four years at Newkirk and four years at Orange City, they farmed at Hospers, retiring to Orange City in 1978. She was a member of the First Reformed Church. For many years she provided baby sitting for several women's church groups.

Survivors include her husband; seven children, Jennie and her husband Jim Smit of Sheldon, Gary and his wife Norma of Oakdale, Calif., Gloria and her husband Randy Patterson of West Des Moines, Rosetta and her husband Gary Lauterbach of Humboldt, Helen and her husband Dave Huitink of Orange City, Barbara and her husband Dennis Van Veldhuizen of Sanborn and Karen and her husband Kevin Vanden Brink of Orange City; 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucy Fedders of Orange City; and four brothers, Steve De Vries of Orange City, Comie De Vries of Alton, Frank De Vries of Orange Qty and George De Vries, Jr, of Orange City.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lois Postma and her husband Jerold, and two brothers, Elmer and Marion De Vries.
