HANS H. JENSEN

Hans H. Jensen, a resident of Sioux township for over twenty years, died at his home northwest of Rock Valley Wednesday evening, Oct. 13 after an illness of a short time, the cause of his death being inflammation of the bowels [which usually means appendicitis].

Mr. Jensen was one of the most highly respected citizens of his community. He was one of Sioux township's most prosperous farmers, a faithful member of the German Lutheran church and a useful and helpful man in whatever position in life he was called to fill.

A brief sketch of the life of the deceased is as follows: He was born in St. Margaretha, Holstein, Germany August 23, 1830, and was at the time of his death 81 years, two months and two days old. He was married in 1862 to Magdalena Hamann and four years later with his family he came to America settling at Davenport, Ia., and later in 1888 came to Sioux township where he lived on a farm until death claimed him. His first wife died in 1877 and he was married again in 1880 to Margaretha Dallmeier and eighteen years later she passed on to the great unknown leaving her husband and a large family of children.

The deceased is survived by thirteen children, Mrs. Hans Clausen, Mrs. Aug. Schimmel, Mrs. Chris. Schroeder and John Jensen by his first wife, another son Henry Jensen died almost a year ago. Those born during his second marriage and who still survive their father are Will Jensen, Oldham, S.D.; Henry, Emma and C. Jensen at home; Mrs. Cornelius Howen, Ortonville, Minn.; Mrs. H. F. Winters, Ramona, S.D.; Louis, Mathilda and Lillian all at home and were present at the funeral.

Funeral services were held Friday at the late home of the deceased and interment was made in the Sioux Township cemetery. Rev. E. H. Gilman of the German Lutheran church conducted the services.
