Lewis Kooi, 63, of Rock Valley died Thursday, April 12, 1984, in a hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, after a long illness. Services were Saturday, April 14, in the Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley. The Rev. Robert Timmer officiated. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery under direction of Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Mr. Kooi was born April 22, 1920, in Hawarden and attended rural schools. He married Tillie Vanden Bosch Feb. 13, 1941. They farmed in the rural Alvord area from 1954 until 1981 when they retired and moved into Rock Valley. Mr. Kooi was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a charter member of the Calvin Christian Reformed Church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1945.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Arthur of Hull, Larry of West Palm Beach, FL, Roger of Sioux Falls, Darrel of Harrisburg, SD, and Wendall of Inwood; one brother, Earl of Ireton; five sisters, Mrs. Esther Vandef Plas and Mrs. Delmar (Joyce) Van Wyk, both of Pella, Mrs. Margaret Dickerson of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Robert (Florence) Blom of Ralston, NE, and Ruth Kooi of San Diego, CA; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
