Hiram J. Wood, 88, of Hawarden died Sunday, Feb. 19, 1984, in the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Services were at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, in the Associated Church in Hawarden. The Rev. Fredrich Mellberg officiated. Burial was in Eden Cemetery at Hudson, SD, under direction of Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Mr. Wood was born May 14,1895, in Sioux County. He married Marie Speelman March 15, 1935, at Sibley. They farmed in the Hudson area, moving to Hawarden in 1976. He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the Hudson American Legion, Associated Church of Hawarden and Woodmen of the World Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Lee of Santa Maria, CA; two daughters, Mrs. Roland (Lois) Olson of Thousand Oaks, CA, and Mrs. Greg (Esther) Johnston of Riverside, CT; one sister, Myrtle Gross of Beresford, SD, and nine grandchildren.
