Alfred Hemmingson Alfred S. Hemmingson, 86, of Ireton died Sunday, Sept. 18,1983, in a hospital in Orange City. Services were at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton. The Rev. Paul Sieveking officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Dow Funeral Home of Ireton. Casket bearers were Pete Eisma, Wallace Vender Hamm, Mark Hemmingson, Scott Schreurs, Bradley Hemmingson, Robert Hemmingson, and
Dale Walker.Mr. Hemmingson was born Dec. 4,1896, in rural Ireton. He married Louise Schmedhans Jan. 9,1918, in Ireton. They fanned in the Ireton area until 1931 when they moved into town, where he worked as a carpenter. During World War I, they moved to Bremerton, WA, where he was employed in the Puget Sound Navy Yard for four years.
They returned to Ireton and he served on the school board, draft board and town council. He served as town marshal and city assessor and was a member of the Ireton Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter,Loris Walker of Ireton; two sons, Robert of Bremerton and Leland of LeMars; seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
