Last Sunday occurred the death of Jacob Nieuwenhof at the home of his daughter Mrs, De Young. He was taken sick with lung fever some time in May, He was born at Edam Netherlands November second 1836 and learned his trade—that of carpenter—in the old country. At the age of twenty he was married to Tryntje Sieben (Siebe)and in 1868 they came to this country and located at South Holland near Chicago, In 1883 they came to Sioux county and a year later Mrs. Nieuwenhof died.

Nine children were born to them— Mrs. R. De Young, Mrs. Job Ypma aud Herman of Orange City, Mrs. J. Kooiman of Leota Minnesota, Mrs. Scholten and Mrs, Dykstra of Perkins, Mrs. Kazeu of Chicago, Mrs. Van Eck of Sioux Center and John of North Yakima Washington, There are fifty one grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral was held in the Christian Reformed church last Tuesday and was conducted by Rev, I. Van Dellen,

Sunday morning, the 2nd of June Mr. Jacob Nieuwenhof passed away at the home ot his daughter. Mrs. R. De Young. Mr. Nieuwenhof was in robust health and actively engaged until the I8th of May when he became ill with lung fever. He was born the 2ndof November, 1836 at Edam in the Netherlands. He learned his trade that of carpenter, from his father John Nieuwenhof in the old country. At the age of twenty he was united in marriage to Trijntje Sieben (Siebe). In 1868 he came to this country and settled in South Holland, IL., a suburb of Chicago.

In 1883 he came west to Orange City and has lived and worked at his trade here ever since. Mr. Nieuwenhof was blessed with a kindly, jovial temperment and his friendship and company was valued by all who came into contract with him. He had an abundant store of energy and his industry was unceasing. He was a careful workman and in his capacity as carpenter he has reared many a monument to his memory, but greater than this is the monument of a life well spent in the service of his fellow men.

Seven children mourn the loss of a dear father, John of North Yakima, Wash., Herman, Mrs. R. De Young, Mrs. J. Ypma, all of this city; Mrs. Van Ek, of Sioux Center, Mrs. Dykstra, of Perkins; Mrs. Schouten, of Sioux Center; Mrs. Kooyman, of Leota, Minn., and Mrs. Kazen of Chicago. All of whom were present at the funeral services. The funeral was held in the Christian Reformedchurch last Tuesday.

Their son, Jacob Nieuwenhof born at Edam age 22 married Trijntje Siebe 19 born at Texel dau of Hermanus Siebe and Juliana F. C. Zousendaal on 17 Apr 1859 at Edam . )
