Sioux County Capital August 16, 1984

Mr. Harley E. Grotenhuis, 60, of Hospers, died unexpectedly Thursday, Services were .held Saturday, at 2 p.m. at the First Reformed Church, Hospers, Rev, Henry Vermeer officiated. Burial was in Hospers Cemetery under direction of the Van Gelder Funeral Home, Orange City.

Mr. Grotenhuis was born on Sept. 22, 1923, at Hospers, the son of Edward and Henrietta (Oolbekkink) Grotenhuis, He married Artie Van Zee on Nov. 1, 1945 in Hospers. Most of his life was spent in Hospers, where he owned and operated Hospers Oil Co, until 1969. While in semi-retirement he continued to be active in sales.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Hospers where he had served as elder and deacon. Mr. Grotenhuis was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Artie, a son, Randy of St. Paul, Minn., a daughter, Mrs. Dixon (Darla) Van Meeteren of Sheldon; four grandchildren and a brother, Bill, of Hospers.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry and his parents.
