Edward Grotenhuis, 87, died Friday, June 4 at a hospital in Orange City after a brief illness.
Services were at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the First Reformed Church at Hospers with the Rev. Carl De Jong officiating. Burial was in the Hospers Cemetery under the direction of the Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City. Family visitation was from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Grotenhuis was born Feb. 5, 1895, at Newkirk, Iowa. He married Henrietta Oolbekkink Feb. 5, 1919, at Newkirk. The couple farmed near Hospers until retiring in 1949. Mrs. Grotenhuis died March 24, 1978.

He was a resident of the Sheldon Christian Retirement Home prior to moving to the Heritage House Nursing Home at Orange City six months ago. He was a member of the First Reformed Church. He was a veteran of World War 1 and a member of the Veterans of WWI of the USA, Inc., and the American Legion.

He is survived by two sons, William and Harley, both of Hospers; one brother, Marion of Albert Lea, Minn.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
