Marie A. Grotenhuis
Mrs. Marie Grotenhuis, age 92 of Hospers, passed away Sunday, January 18, in the Long Term Care Facility of the Orange City Municipal Hospital. The funeral service was held January 21, at 1:30 p.m., at the Newkirk Reformed Church, rural Hospers. The Rev. Dennis Hietbrink officiated with interment following at the Newkirk Cemetery. The Oolman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Marie Aletta was born July 8, 1905, at Orange City, the daughter of Benjamin and Jacoba (Nieuwenhuis) Ver Steeg. On February 21, 1924, she married Reuben Grotenhuis at Orange City. They farmed near Newkirk. Mr Grotenhuis passed away June 22, 1960, near Newkirk.

In 1965, Mrs. Grotenhuis moved to Hospers. In 1994, she became a resident of the Long Term Care Facility. Marie was a member of the Newkirk Reformed Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and belonged to Reformed Church Womens Ministries.

Survivors include her two sons and their wives, Marley and Ruth Grotenhuis of Sibley; and Lloyd and Rosa Grotenhuis of Newkirk; ten grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren; and a brother and his wife, Elmer B. and Edith Ver Steeg of Tigard, Oregon. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two grandsons.
